The overall lack of understanding of the 1031 exchange process very challenging. There were several lapse of connection on gaining understanding of a variety of scenarios involving the 1031. Ultimately it cost my husband and I several thousand dollars. We are hopeful to work with our accountant to minimize the issue. Now knowing increasing loan amount for repairs to a property eliminated the benefit of the 1031, seems like we should have been cautioned as we are not tax/accounting/mortgage experts. A positive in the process is the overall deal was done and I believe everyone learned something
